Remember that old television series "That's Incredible?" Every week the show featured some truly amazing people who do very remarkable things. That show will come to mind when you pick up the hard copy of our April May 2008 issue, on sale now.

For starters, some of the most spectacular photography you are likely to ever see is featured in our new issue. Cumberland photojournalist Ron Geatz offers a glimpse into his world his job by offering never before seen photographs of his international travels.

We also introduce you to a couple from Mount Savage that fixes clocks, watches and music boxes. Their own collection of clocks rivals that of any museum. Speaking of museums and Mount Savage, we're taking you to a place we bet many of you don't even know exist -- a museum tucked away just off the beaten path of the Allegheny Highlands trail between Mount Savage and Eckhart. And if that wasn't enough, you are going to learn how Mount Savage got its name. It may not be what you think but it does involve potential cannibalism.

This issue also gets to know a native of Barrelville credited with helping invent the sonogram. And readers will also find out from a Westernport artist what it takes to build a classic mandolin from the ground up.

Also featured is a special report on an area of Allegany County still reeling from acid that bubbles up from an underground abandoned coal mine. We will tell you exactly where it is and what is being done to help solve the problem.

Plus, culinary contributor Bill Hand has some non traditional offerings for the Passover season, Arts and Entertainment contributor Emily Thomas fills us in on a movement to have an area of Frostburg get a new distinction. And just for fun, our movie columnist John DiLeo celebrates the 100th birthday of a screen legend. Plus, we'll revisit the Snow Ball, attend the PACE reception in Annapolis, attend a photo exhibition, and learn more about how a person's health could be determined just by what you are thinking.

While Allegany Magazine is a sister publication of the award winning Cumberland Times-News, it maintains its own separate identity, both in content and in style. The glossy, full-sized, all-color Allegany Magazine contains feature articles and columns written by area writers with accompanying original local artwork. Because our reporters and photographers are covering their own backyard, we have news, features and photos no one else does or can come close to.

If you haven't subscribed by now, what are you waiting for? No other magazine gives you Allegany County and its surrounding regions like we do. We invite you to stay and visit us and browse. And if you like what you see, point your mouse to the page that says subscribe and we will mail you a hard copy of the magazine that will keep you posted, keep you entertained, keep you informed and hopefully, keep you bragging about your hometown for months to come.
